Looking to Join the Club?
New school-aged rowers join the club via their school sports department.
Are you an adult wishing to transfer from another rowing club, or are you a new adult rower?
All our rowers have a great level of commitment to perpetuating “The Club”, and everyone knows that the club is them, and they are the club. This takes the form of all members carrying a share of the load in duties, office holding and rosters.
GLENDOWIE College Rowing
Glendowie College has been a rowing school since 1966/67, and joined St George’s in the 1991/92 season. GDC is a public secondary school located in east Auckland. The rowing team is a well-established squad of around fifty athletes, a large well maintained fleet of top tier racing boats, an active and supportive parent committee, and a skilled and passionate group of coaches. GDC rowing works very closely with the school and sports department – giving their coaches good support when they need it and allowing crews to utilise available school facilities. First port of call if you’re a Glendowie student wanting to row, is through the sports department.

MAcleans College Rowing
Rowing since 2002, MacLean’s started with a squad of 10 girls and coach Keith Hibberd, and has gained in standing quickly amongst the New Zealand rowing community. Boys started rowing in 2006. Contact your sports department for entry to the rowing programme at MacLean’s. Coaches have included Tony Gallagher, Alex Brown, Keith Hibberd and Allan Vester.

Masters Rowing
Our friendly Masters group is the largest in NZ. This group formed in 1995 and now competes at all regattas from 1000m to long distance, national and regional. Many groups from within the Masters have also headed overseas for regattas such as the Canal du Midi, the Head of the Charles, the Head of the Yarra, World Masters regattas and FISA Masters Rowing champs. There’s usually an adventure, an event or a training camp in the pipeline as well. Masters are aged 27 upwards. Our group is aged between 40 – 75, men and women. Our Masters group offers camaraderie, skills acquisition, outdoorsy-ness and physical activity that enhances health.
We have capped numbers for the Masters Learn to Row programme as at July 2023 and will reassess this after March 2024. You can still express your interest, but will not be invited to join the group until after that time.

CLUB Rowing
A new Club-aged crew (older than school rowers, younger than Masters) has been formed to contest the 2023/24 season, with coaching by John Cook and much enthusiasm from the rowers. All male at this stage, ably helped by volunteer coxswains Katie Anderson and Hannah Strang. This is the first time in many years that St George’s has had a Club crew and we’re eagerly anticipating some great outcomes.
